I grew up next door to Detroit, miles from the nearest farm. After a detour through culinary school and professional cooking I landed at Michigan State University, Michigan's agricultural college. There I studied botany, met my future husband and decided to become a farmer. Now I live with that husband and our young daughter in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We run a small CSA at the base of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The views are breathtaking, land is cheap enough for young folks to break into farming, and the community is lively to say the least. Life here is often about celebrating good food - from venison, thimbleberries, and pasties, to locally grown arugula - and we're happy to be a part of it. We're the part that grows arugula.
